Question by wippy_flipper: Is Diamond Head in Hawaii open or accessible on Thanksgiving day?

I am in Hawaii on vacation and would like to hike Diamond Head on Thanksgiving. I’m thinking because it’s a park that it would be closed, but I also thought that maybe just some services would be closed. I also hear you can park at a nearby community college and walk to it. Basically can I get in on Thanksgiving day?

Question by Anthony: How expensive is it to vacation in Hawaii for a couple of weeks? Any cheap or decent price places to shop at?

My family and I are planning to go to Hawaii (Probably Kona, but small possibility in Honolulu) and were wondering if there were cheap or decent places to go to shop and activities enjoy without spending an arm and a leg. I know Hawaii is expensive and a tourist area, but there must some activities and places to shop that are affordable. Would appreciate any insight.

“Pleasant Holidays” offers some pretty good deals. There is lots of free stuff to do around Kona. You can go snorkeling out side of Magic Sands Beach. Looking out to your left a couple of hundred feet is a nice little lava tube to free dive thru. City of Refuge is significant to understanding the Hawaiian culture; it used to be almost free. Snorkeling in Kealakakua Bay is great. There were some bamboo forests in Napapoo, maybe still there. If you pay and scuba dive Kona is great place. If you drive to the volcano that is free or used to be. Lots of hiking trails to old and new eruption sites. Have Fun!

If it is your first time going to Hawaii, go to Oahu. 80% of the islands population are on Oahu. You have nightlife in Waikiki, but yet you can take a short drive to the north side for very scenic landscape (think of “Lost”) without many houses. Places to visit: Hanauma Bay, Byodo In Temple, Pearl Harbor, Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head, International Market Place, beach on the north that overlooks China Man’s Hat Island.

Question by QueenofYack: What part of Hawaii is the best vacation spot?

My hubby and I were planning on going to Hawaii for a few days in June.
I was wondering what place is best to stay to get the most out of it.
We want to get do some sight seeing of things like volcanoes and do some water sports. I would also like to check out a luau if possible.
I have heard that Honolulu is a packed city and I don’t know that I want to be there, because I really don’t care for the “big city” aspect of vacationing.
So what would you suggest?

I think you would enjoy Maui more. The problem with the volcano is it’s not always active when you want to go visit it. We really enjoyed the Hyatt Regency Maui, which is just outside of Lahaina. That was more than 20 years ago, but my son and his wife were there last summer with my granddaughter and it’s still wonderful. It’s on 200 Nohea kai Dr
